According to unnamed sources, The New York Times, CNN, and many other outlets reported this news. This is in stark contrast to current US President and Vice President Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, who received their COVID vaccine shots in public. Even Trump’s own vice-President Mike Pence took his COVID vaccine shots in front of the public. This encourages confidence among the public for the vaccine, with growing skepticism against scientifically proven vaccines prevalent among the public.

However, Donald Trump opted to take his vaccine in private along with his wife Melania. Both of them contracted COVID-19 back in October when they tested positive after the first Presidential debate.

Amongst all the people groups most skeptical to take the vaccines, white Republican voters are the most dominant, as told by Axios.

His history of anti-vaccine comments

And Donald Trump is partly responsible for feeling this skepticism. He often tweeted conspiracy theories on his now-suspended Twitter account. Furthermore, according to the New York Times, Trump said back in 2009:

I think the vaccines can be very dangerous. And, obviously, you know, a lot of people are talking about vaccines with children with respect to autism.

When he started his Presidential campaign, Trump persisted with his anti-vaccine rhetoric. Now, Trump’s Twitter account has been suspended after the 6th January attack on the US Capitol, in fear of “the risk of further incitement of violence”. However, there are other mediums with which Trump can engage with his following. It can help greatly in establishing some trust in the vaccine. A study said that:

Donald Trump is the first U.S. President to be on the record as having anti-vaccination attitudes… Trump voters were significantly more concerned about vaccines than other Americans.

Even as he left office, Trump didn’t leave behind any vaccine distribution plan. Despite his rhetoric against the vaccine, he never failed to take credit for it, saying:

Never let them forget this was us. We did this.
