Blade Runner 2049 is a marvel of modern sci-fi films. And it fills into the shoes of the original Blade Runner film from 1982 perfectly well. But Jared Leto, who played the role of Niander Wallace in the sequel, loved the movie so much that he’s willing to work on another Blade Runner movie.

Sadly, Blade Runner 2049, just like the original, was not a box office hit. It barely covered its cost and because of that, studios seem unlikely to make another Blade Runner movie. But, that does not stop Jared Leto from appreciating the movie. In fact, it’s Niander Wallace is one of the few roles that Leto would love to revisit someday.

While talking to Jake’s Takes, Leto was asked about his return as the Joker in Zack Snyder’s Justice League cut. He then started to talk about his career in general and spoke very fondly of Blade Runner 2049, saying:

You know, with every character I play, I don’t know if it’s because I work so intently and I tend to dig really deep and put a lot of time and energy into it, but when I’m done playing with them, done playing the parts, I do miss them a little bit. And you do all this work anyway, it would be kind of nice to go back and explore other [characters]. Like Niander Wallace in ‘Blade Runner,’ I would love to play that part again as a prequel or something.

And Jared Leto is not alone in thinking that. Every fan of the Blade Runner franchise knows that Niandar Wallace is a huge part of the sequel. And there have been some short stories that expand more on the enigma that is Wallace. But, for now, there’s no discussion of a sequel to Blade Runner 2049. There may be a chance of animated spin-offs, but that would mean we won’t get to see Jared Leto reprise his favorite role.

That said, Jared Leto is rumored to star in the upcoming Tron 3, so maybe there’s a chance he could give Blade Runner another shot? Who knows!
