Mark Hamill calls ‘Mandalorian’ Cameo “Greatest Gift”
Let’s face it – we all loved Luke Skywalker’s The Mandalorian cameo. Seeing him use the force to deal with Dark Troopers as if they were Storm Troopers was insane. But, the legend himself who played Luke in the original series, Mark Hamill, seems to love it just as much as the fans. In fact, he called Luke’s cameo the “greatest gift”.
Mark Hamill is over the moon because of The Mandalorian cameo
The cameo from Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian’s season 2 finale left fans shocked as well as delighted. No one was expecting it, that too at the very last moment of the finale. And then, we saw a young Luke come and collect Baby Yoda (Grogu) from Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) so that he could train him to become a Jedi.
However, it wasn’t Mark Hamill who played Luke Skywalker in his Mandalorian Cameo. Instead, it was body double Max Lloyd Jones and Disney’s use of technology to recreate a younger version of Luke. And they’ve done it before too, in Rogue One and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. But, Hamill was still extremely thanked the showrunners immensely for bringing Luke back to life.
Hamill wrote on Twitter, thanking creator Jon Favreau and director Dave Filoni with his tweet, saying:
Sometimes the greatest gifts are the most unexpected and something you never realized you wanted until it was given.
Furthermore, Jon Favreau was especially scared, along with many on the show, that Hamill’s Mandalorian cameo would get leaked before release. He said:
Every piece of [season 2] casting leaked, so we were so scared, right up until it aired, that our surprise cameo was going to leak, too.
Even Hamill himself was impressed by how they kept his involvement a secret. He tweeted:
The fact that we were able to keep my involvement a secret for over a year with no leaks is nothing less than a miracle. A real triumph for spoiler-haters everywhere!
