Millie Bobby Brown asks Respect from Fans after Horrible Interaction
2020 was so far a good year for Millie Bobby Brown. She got her own Netflix series in Enola Holmes and got a lot of praise for her performance in Stranger Things. However, one horrifying interaction with a “supposed” fan has left her traumatized. And now, she’s urging fans to show some respect.
Millie Bobby Brown recalls harassment at the hands of a fan
The 16-year-old Stranger Things star faced public harassment while she went for Christmas shopping, as she detailed the events on Monday, November 30th while crying. In her Instagram stories, Millie said she was shopping with her mom when a girl recognized her. The actress recalls:
She said, ‘Can I take a video of you?’ I said, ‘Um, no’. But why would anyone want to be taken a video of? Of me? It’s not like of the both of us. I don’t need to justify it to anyone. If I don’t want to be taken a video of, I don’t have to be.
However, the fan wasn’t willing to take no for an answer. Millie continued with her story, saying:
I was paying and she walked past me and began to video me again. And I said, ‘I’m a human being. Like, what more can I ask from you?’
After this, Millie Bobby Brown started crying, as the fan brought her to tears:
She said ‘So I can’t take a video of a human being?’ And I said, ‘No, not when I said no.’ It just makes me upset when people try to push the boundary, and I just wish people were more respectful.
After that, Millie stood for herself against the harassment of the fan, saying:
I’m still trying to navigate this all and it’s still overwhelming… Where are my rights to say no?
At the end of the video, Millie Bobby Brown urged her fans to show more respect to others around them. She said:
You have to show more respect for others, no matter who they are, what they do. It’s just manners.
The actress reassures fans that she is fine
After this heartfelt rant and valid demand for respect from the public, many speculated that this horrific encounter with the fan is the reason why Millie Bobby Brown deleted her TikTok account. Later on, the Enola Holmes star returned to Instagram, reassuring the fans that she is better, saying:
I am totally fine now. But was emotional in the moment because I felt uncomfortable and disrespected.
Moreover, the writers of Stranger Things also seem to back Millie Bobby Brown’s demand for respect. They tweeted from their official Twitter account:
Be kind to others. Find compassion. Wear a mask.
All those things cost zero dollars and take zero energy.
