Jonah Hill says He was always a Trendsetter, but got Snubbed due to his Weight
Recently, Jonah Hill has become a bit of a style icon in the past decade. In fact, he’s more than just a style icon and is in fact very much involved in the fashion industry. However, he has revealed that whenever he told people about his passion for fashion, they would snub him. And that was mainly because of his weight.
Jonah Hill talks about the prejudice against him when he entered the fashion industry
The 22 Jump Street star recently gave an interview to GQ, where he revealed how passionate he was for fashion. Jonah said:
I always had an interest in personal style and fashion, but I was always a bigger guy. It’s really hard when you’re overweight to dress a certain way, because clothes aren’t made for people who are overweight to have style.
Moreover, even after being involved in the fashion world for some time now, people are still not able to accept Jonah’s place in the industry. Jonah Hill further said:
So, I think it surprises people. Even now, I’ll overhear someone discussing my place in the fashion world or whatever, and people are like, ‘That guy? The schlubby guy from Superbad?’.
And Jonah Hill really has established a reputation as a style icon in recent years. He even has a clothing line with Adidas right now. How obvious should it get for him to be recognized for his talents? Moreover, Jonah also revealed that his sense of fashion nurtured to a whole new level once he stopped caring about others’ opinions. He said:
For me, that was a big turning point of realizing, ‘OK, be yourself. You don’t have to be anything you don’t want to be. And if you’re really interested in fashion, then you should be — don’t push that away. Lean into it’. I think that’s a dope wave that’s happening right now in culture, too.
His film career also made things difficult for him
Furthermore, Jonah Hill said that his career trajectory and his physique, both stacked in the odds against him entering the fashion industry. He said:
I think I was conditioned for [the opposite] based on my acting career. Because, a) being overweight and b) comedy, you’re not supposed to be into fashion on either of those sides. When I was coming up in comedy, you would get made fun of if you cared about fashion. But I always did.
It is truly remarkable how Jonah Hill defied the odds and still went to spread his fashion style. And this would encourage others to come forth with their talents as well.
