Halsey Shares How Mac Miller’s Death Made Her Leave A Toxic Relationship
Halsey is sharing about the tragic event that opened her eyes. After that, she managed to get herself out of an unhealthy relationship safe and sound.
While speaking with Armchair Expert podcast host, Dax Shepard, Halsey opened up about Mac Miller’s death. The late singer had suffered an accidental overdose back in September 2018. According to Halsey, this had been the “turning point” in her life.
“This is a terrible thing to say because I think it puts a positive connotation on a heinously tragic event, but it gave me the courage and the faith to leave the relationship I was in,” Halsey explained. “It gave me that real f–king reality check that I needed and I think it probably did the same for a lot of other people too.”
Halsey Reflects Back On Life
She also admitted to being in a position in life where she could step back and realize that she wasn’t ruining her life yet. But Halsey also never expected to see someone she loved and lost to go down that path so aggressively and rapidly. Mac Miller’s death made her recognize that spiral early and gave her the reality check she needed.
Although Halsey did not name anyone, she admitted to being with an individual who used drugs.
“As a result, my currency of expressing love with them became doing drugs with them,” Halsey explained. “There was a lot of infidelity in the relationship too. It was like if I don’t do it with you, you’re going to go do it with someone else and then probably f–k them and I’m going to take you back anyway because this is what we do.”
In addition to her troubled love life, Halsey was also struggling with bipolar disorder. It made it even more difficult for her to cope with the nature of her relationship with this individual.
“I’m a control freak and I can barely control my own emotions, and now I’m trying to control the emotions of a person who is not dealing with logic and reason the way that I’m familiar with. Now, I’m questioning my own perception of reality. I can’t control myself, I can’t control them. What can I control? Why am I even alive? What is even the point of anything? That was what the process was like.”
It was only after Halsey had left her ex-boyfriend that she managed to get her “s-it together and stabilize” herself.
