Taylor Swift Responds To Scooter Braun Selling Her Music
After news broke out about Scooter Braun selling the master rights to Taylor Swift’s old albums, fans were worried about her. Taylor has been vocal about her distaste of Scooter. This is because of her ongoing battle to regain control of her old musical catalog. Taylor’s first six albums were acquired through a Big Machine Records purchasing deal by Scooter Braun.
However, fans soon learned that Taylor Swift was not involved in the $300 million sale. She set the record straight by writing out a statement on Twitter.
Now, she revealed that her music had once again been sold without her permission or knowledge. This makes it the second time all her life’s work has been put on the market without her knowing. However, Taylor is still moving ahead with her original plan. Which was to re-record her first five albums.
Taylor Swift Puts Out A Statement
Starting off her statement, Taylor explained that she had tried to negotiate with Scooter. However, Scooter’s team wanted her to sign an NDA stating that she will not say anything negative about him anymore. This was before she could even look at the financial records of the company. So essentially, she would be silenced forever before she would have the chance to bid on her own work.
According to her legal team, this was not normal. An NDA like this is usually to silence and pay off an assault accuser.
Scooter would also refuse to quote Taylor’s team a price. He was determined to sell the master recordings to anyone. As long as it was not Taylor.
However, she ended up receiving a letter from Shamrock Holdings, the buyer company. This letter informed her about the sale.
But still, Taylor was “hopeful and open to the possibility of a partnership with Shamrock.” However, after learning that Scooter will still profit from her work through the Shamrock deal. She called off all negotiations.
But now, Taylor has started re-recording her older music.
“It has already proven to be both exciting and creatively fulfilling,” she said. “I have plenty of surprises in store. 😎 I want to thank you guys for supporting me through this ongoing saga. And I can’t wait for you to hear what I’ve been dreaming up.”
