Julia Louis Honored With Mark Twain Lifetime Achievement Award In Comedy

Mark Twain Award Was Rightfully For Julia Louis

It was 22nd October 2018 when the comedy pro received the award. This Sunday night, Washington ’s Kennedy Centre contained overwhelmed fans who were there to share the memorable moments. Julia Louis, the 57-year-old comic actress received a Lifetime achievement award under the banner of Mark Twain. The scene became more intense when top-rated celebrities including Tina Fey (2010 Mark Twain recipient) Jerry Seinfeld and Stephen Colbert conceded her efforts. They threw flashes on the long journey of her career.

Tina Fey Praised The Award Winning Actress

The former Mark Twain award-winning actress, Tina Fey praised her colleague at the award ceremony. She spotted the similarities between her and Louis-Dreyfus lives. According to her, both the actresses began their careers in Chicago and then proceeded to Saturday Night Live. Then Julia married Brad Hall. Brad Hall is Julia Louis’ husband and former SNL cast-mate. He was resting right beside his wife at the ceremony.

Her comments were quite praiseworthy as she remarked on Julia Louis’ Seinfeld character Elaine Benes. Tina acclaimed Julia for perfectly dealing with the selfishness and sarcasm of Elaine’s oddity. She also admired Julia’s dancing talent in her speech. According to Fey, Julia is a Terminator robot of comedy. And, this rightfully justified her Mark Twain award at Washington. 

Fey said:

“Julia’s never been afraid to be unlikable – not on screen and not in person.”

Veep, And Weeping With Joy In Washington

‘Veep’ was another phenomenal show in which Julia performed the character of a former senator. Toney Hale from’ Veep’, who plays her sycophantic assistant, considers working with Louis a privilege. He learned from her how to get along with writers. Moreover, he was impressed with Dreyfus’s commitment to finding the right joke.

Tony was enchanted by Louis sophistication. Hale said:

“Except there was that time I couldn’t stop laughing during a scene. And she replied, ‘Tony, you know you’re not watching the show. You’re in the show.'”

The Award-winning actress Julia Louis is an 11-time Emmy Award-winner. This Washington, D.C. actress went to Holton-Arms School in Bethesda, Maryland. Julia Louis-Dreyfus was a born performer and she has been performing since her childhood. She got the theater experience from high school and Northwestern University. She was a part of the improv theater group in Chicago. This theatre group cast later joined Saturday Night Live.

Unfortunately, the great actress was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Still, she has an optimistic vision of life.

She uttered the following words while accepting her Mark Twain award,

“So the fact that I have had the opportunity to make people laugh for a living is one of the many blessings that I have received in my life,”

The Ceremony for Mark Twain Prize for American Humor will air on PBS next month.
