Jared Leto to play Joker in Zack Synder’s ‘Justice League’
Jared Leto’s performance as the Joker in Suicide Squad (2016) will go down as one of Hollywood’s biggest disasters. Critics had a field day with his performance as they ripped it to shreds. However, he will have the last laugh as he is set to reprise that role. Yes, you heard it right. He will play the DC villain in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, also known as the “Snyder cut”.
Jared Leto back as the Joker?
HBO Max is overseeing the Snyder Cut, which is officially titled Zack Snyder’s Justice League. It also includes a new round of shooting, which includes many unfinished scenes. But, Jared Leto is also a part of the reshoots, playing his controversial role of the Joker according to The Hollywood Reporter. Currently, the reshooting is taking place with Ben Affleck, Ray Fisher, and Amber Heard. And Leto is also a part of the team. However, it’s unclear if any other actors are a part of the crew or not.
Leto being a part of the Snyder Cut as the Joker comes off as a real surprise, especially as he was not part of the original Justice League back in 2017. It raises the question that just how different will the Snyder Cut be from the original film? Moreover, it also ties the Justice League with Suicide Squad, both of which were critical disasters for Warner Bros. and DCEU.
However, Harley Quinn did come out of that movie as the only fan-favorite character. That is why she got a stand-alone film as well, named Birds of Prey. Snyder was an executive producer on the film, with his wife Deborah Snyder, as Warner Bros. were placing their bets on Snyder to steer the DC Cinematic Universe in his direction. And they were just as excited with Jared Leto as the Joker, who is arguably the most influential comic book villain of all time.
Can HBO Max and Zack Snyder save Justice League?
It’ll be very interesting to see Jared Leto reprise his role as the Joker, considering how much stick he got for it in Suicide Squad. Many people blamed the writing for Leto’s failure. However, Leto got his fair share of criticism too. So, this is his chance to do the best that he can with the character. Jared Leto has a lot of highly acclaimed performances and movies under his belt. These include Fight Club, Mr. Nobody, Blade Runner 2049, Requiem for a Dream, Dallas Buyer’s Club, and others. So, he does have extraordinary talent as an actor.
That is why audiences around the world were hyped to see Jared Leto as the Joker. But, Suicide Squad left them disappointed. We’ll have to see in Zack Snyder’s Justice League how Leto performs alongside Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman.
