A look at the 2nd trailer of ‘The Mandalorian’ season 2
Only 8 days left!
The Mandalorian‘s second season is just around the corner. With 8 days to go, fans are as eager to see the new challenge ahead of Mando and Baby Yoda. So, Disney decided to release another trailer of the show, teasing fans on what they can expect from Season 2.
The Mandalorian season 2 trailer shows a more complex plotline
The trailer largely focuses on the adventures Mando (Pedro Pascal), Baby Yoda, Cara Dune (Gina Carano), Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) are set to go through. In a scene, a person warns Mando that the place he’s in is no place for a child. Moreover, the trailer also featured some high-speed chases. And Mando also said that he’ll need to find more Mandalorians to deliver the child to his kind. So, we can expect The Mandalorian to be a lot more narrative-based in season 2.
If the first season was a space western, then the second will be more action-packed. John Favreau and Dave Filloni said the same thing in their interview with Entertainment Weakly. Favreau said:
As we introduce other characters, there are opportunities to follow different storylines.
Moreover, Favreau is taking some elements from Game of Thrones as an inspiration for The Mandalorian season 2, as he said further:
The world was really captivated by Game of Thrones and how that evolved as the characters followed different storylines — that’s very appealing to me as an audience member.
Moreover, Filoni also described how season 2 will be more plot-driven, exploring more of the Star Wars Universe of The Mandalorian, but with a structured story. In the first season, we got more stand-alone episodes that made us more familiar with the world. But, season 2 will not be like that, as he said:
Everything gets bigger, the stakes get higher, but also the personal story between the Child and the Mandalorian develops in a way I think people will enjoy.
This show matters a lot for Disney+
Other than implications for the Star Wars Universe, this show has a lot of significance for Disney+. The streaming service launched alongside The Mandalorian but has lacked original content. Unlike Netflix and Amazon Prime, it’s taking a while for Disney Plus to produce original content. They’re hoping The Mandalorian season 2 will do for the streaming service what season 1 did.
However, they need to produce more original content. Right now, because of the pandemic, Disney+ couldn’t add more original content as production was paused. Now, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is well in production. And WandaVision is set for release in December of 2020. So, Disney+ will be well in the news by the end of this year with two highly anticipated original shows.
