Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also known as AOC, is a big fan of video games, especially League of Legends. So, she put out a tweet, saying:

Anyone want to play Among Us with me on Twitch to get out the vote? (I’ve never played but it looks like a lot of fun).

And sure enough, AOC picked up the perfect game to catch everyone’s attention.

What is “Among Us”?

“Among Us” is a four to ten player hidden-role game by the developer InnerSloth. In it, there are “crewmates” who do regular work like fixing the wire or doing medical scans. But, there’s an “Imposter” among them, who is trying to kill off the crewmates without getting caught.

Even though it was released in 2018, it became trendy only recently after it caught the eye of content creators in South Korea and Brazil in 2019. Then, Twitch streamer Chance “Sodapoppin” Morris started playing it in 2020, and it became an overnight success in the United States. Soon after, it caught Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s attention as well. And she decided to use “Among Us” for the betterment of democracy.

Right AOC sent her tweet, many notable streamers and celebrities responded. Twitch streamer Pokimane responded with “It’d be an honor”. And of course, AOC’s good friend Ilhan Omar also raised her hand to play in the replies. Another Twitch streamer and political commentator Hasan Piker made the perfect AOC joke in the quotes:

After seeing the response, AOC is now getting ready for the stream

And shortly afterward, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told the streamers that:

Let’s do it! I’ll set up and account and get some streaming equipment today.

Other than these streamers, even beauty influencer James Charles couldn’t resist AOC’s invite for “Among Us”. Seeing the hype, Ocasio-Cortez quickly made a Twitch account, which almost instantly gained 60,000 followers as soon as she tweeted the link.

How do you think AOC would play better in “Among Us”? As a crewmate or as an imposter? We can’t wait to see it!
