We hear literature enthusiasts are in for a treat. The much-admired Roald Dahl’s classic 1987 fantasy novel, The Witches, is going to get another cinematic adaption. With the beloved Anne Hathaway taking the lead as the Grand Witch.

The first trailer of the highly anticipated film came out last Friday. The trailer showed off its all-star cast and our very own Princess Diaries actress alongside Octavia Spencer.

The Witches’ Plot

We caught a glimpse of ambitious visual effects, frequently at the center of his work, as Anne is changed into the evil Grand High Witch. We witness The Witch along with her coven plans to kill all the children staying at a fancy hotel.

The Grand High Witch is the head of a coven of creepy witches who hate children and wants to rid the world of them. The witches plan to turn all kids into mice. Anne leads the witches on their evil plans. Octavia Spencer plays a very loving but very strong grandmother raising her sweet seven-year-old grandson played by debuting Jahzir Kadeem Bruno. Both have experienced some trauma because the boy is an orphan due to an accident.

The duo of Grandmother and Grandson head to a much-needed vacation. Unfortunately, they happen to stay at the same hotel where the witches are having their convention. The young grandson unintentionally spies on the witches in a meeting and eavesdrops on them talking about their plan to turn all children into mice. The witches, of course, see him eavesdropping and turn the little boy, and two other children, into mice.

The witches then follow the grandmother searching for kids. She sets out to stop the witches and save the children. The plot surely is for kids even though it might sound dark. It also has kid-friendly humor from the kids’ point of view.

Directed and co-written by Robert Zemeckis, the child-friendly horror film will be the perfect Halloween movie for families this October. The movie stars Stanley Tucci as the oblivious yet suspicious hotel manager of the same hotel all of the events take place. The film also features Chris Rock as the narrator!

The book lovers will see their imaginations come true in this movie releasing on the 22nd of October, this year.
