0 260

On the early morning of Friday, October 2nd, 2020, Donald Trump tweeted that he and the first lady Melania Trump tested positive for COVID-19. His diagnosis could not have come at a worse time, as 207,000 people have died in the country due to the virus. This has thrown the nation’s leadership into turmoil as it may also put Joe Biden’s health at risk.

Donald Trump, for months, has downplayed the effects of the Coronavirus. Hours before testing positive for COVID-19, Trump even said that “the end of the pandemic is in sight”. On Thursday night, the White House was put into alert after one of Trump’s close aides, Hope Hicks, tested positive for COVID-19. Afterward, the President and the first lady began their quarantine.

And then, a couple of hours later, Donald Trump tweeted that he and Melania Trump tested positive for COVID-19. He tweeted:

Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!

Furthermore, First Lady Melania also tweeted that she and Donald Trump were “feeling good” and are now quarantining at home. She tweeted:

It isn’t specified yet how long will Donald Trump have to quarantine as he recovers from COVID-19. Moreover, it has also forced him to put his campaign on hold a mere 32 days before the 2020 US Elections on November 3rd. However, Trump’s positive tests also raise concerns for his opponent, Democratic nominee, and former Vice President Joe Biden, who came in close contact with Trump just a couple of days ago on the first Presidential debate.

What does Donald Trump testing positive for COVID-19 mean for Joe Biden?

Both Donald Trump and Joe Biden are in their mid and late seventies, putting them at the high-risk of COVID-19. That is why health professionals are concerned about the two candidates’ health. The Presidential debate took place at the Samson Pavilion of the Health Education Campus (HEC). Now, there was ventilation at the venue, however that may not be enough to keep everyone in the hall at the time safe. Doctors state that regardless of how ventilated the hall was, the chances of getting COVID-19 from an infected person are nineteen times higher in an enclosed room compared to outdoors.

What makes this even worse is that almost all of Donald Trump’s close aides, including Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr. were not wearing masks inside the hall. And almost all Trump’s close family members, including Melania Trump, traveled with Hope Hicks. This meant that at the very least, all of them should be in quarantine.

Evidently, Donald Trump’s Coronavirus test has put the entire leadership of the United States. Not only is Melania Trump and the rest of the Trump family in danger, but Joe Biden and the Democratic leadership are also on the same boat. The next couple of weeks are extremely crucial for the country.
