The Marvel Cinematic Universe just added another great addition to its ever-expanding universe. And the members of the MCU are happily welcoming the new Ms. Marvel. The young Iman Vellani is going to be Kamala Khan in the Disney+ series ‘Ms. Marvel’. Shang-Chi’s Simu Liu and Eternals’ Kumail Nanjiani were there to congratulate the new actress.
The comic readers know about Kamala Khan as the young Muslim-American high school teenager who also happens to fight crime. And of course, she’s got some great superpowers! She has the ability to shrink or enlarge any part of her body! Ms. Marvel entered into the MCU comic world in 2013. Ms. Marvel was written by G. Willow Wilson. The comic book artist was Adrian Alphona. Meanwhile, Stephen Wacker and Sana Amanat serve as editors of the comic book. It’s a great story as we see a young teenager having trouble fighting crime along with typical high school troubles. Plus, it’s from the point-of-view from a Muslim-American girl, which is definitely a fresh story to see.
Many South Asian Hollywood celebrities, such as Mindy Kaling and Riz Ahmed, were championing for Kamala Khan to get a story on the big screens. And it seems like their efforts were worth it as well.
Kevin Feige announced the Ms. Marvel series at the D23 EXPO officially, leading to much excitement for the fans:
“You will meet her in her Disney+ series and then you will see her in our films,” he told the audience at the time. “It is incredibly exciting for us.”
Bisha K. Ali is going to be writing the Ms. Marvel series. Meanwhile, it is confirmed that the Kamala Khan on the screen is going to be Iman Vellani. She’s a new actress from Ontario, Canada.
Simu Liu and Kumail Nanjiani were loving the casting of Iman Vellani
Imagine your favorite Asian celebrities welcoming you to the MCU! 2020 can be a tough year with everyone divided politically. But it’s moments like these that can prove that Hollywood is definitely progressing in a better direction.
Here’s what Simu Liu shared:
