Why Rose McGowan is calling Alyssa Milano ‘Leader of Karens’
There’s no love lost between Rose McGowan and Alyssa Milano. The two have repeatedly engaged in Twitter feuds in the past. This time, McGowan called Milano the “leader of Karens”. If you’re familiar with internet memes, you’ll know that a “Karen” is a pejorative term that represents a demanding, middle-aged, white woman. Here’s why she called Milano a “Karen”.
Why Rose McGowan called Alyssa Milano “Leader of Karens”
The feud began when McGowan shared a screenshot of a Daily Mail article that claimed that Alyssa Milano had called the cops on to report what seemed like an armed gunman at her Bell Canyon home in California. McGowan tweeted:
“Who is the Leader of Karens? Alyssa Milano”
The article further claimed that Milano and her husband, Dave Bugliari, called the police when they heard gunshots on their $2.5 million property. They described the suspect as a “male, 40-years old, with long rifle”. After the call, seven County Sheriffs’ vehicles, one police helicopter, one K-9 unit, and a Los Angeles Fire Department team arrived on her property.
However, the police later revealed that the suspect was actually a teenager who was shooting squirrels with an air gun. Moreover, social media users accused Alyssa Milano of hypocrisy. This is because the actress called 911, despite claiming earlier to support the “Defund the Police” movement. This movement gained traction after the tragic killing of George Floyd in May and the resulting Black Lives Matter protests that swept the world.
Alyssa Milano clarifies her position with a statement
Later on, however, Alyssa Milano explained to her “rightwing media & trolls” in a tweet, saying:
… my neighbor called the police after seeing a person dressed in black holding a rifle behind my home where I live with my young children and husband.
Milano also shared her statement, in which she explained the series of events that took place on her estate. She says that when she and her husband were made aware of the situation, her husband rang the police.
Apparently, rightwing media & trolls have decided that they should target me because my neighbor called the police after seeing a person dressed in black holding a rifle behind my home where I live with my young children and husband. In her statement, Milano called the responding officers “amazing” and that they made her feel “safe and secure”. She further mentions how “these are exactly the type of situations police officers are trained for”. The Charmed star added that she would “love to see equally trained non-police professionals respond to addiction and mental health crises and non-violent events”. This would help free up police officers to do the jobs “they are so good at handling”. Moreover, Alyssa Milano also made clear in a tweet that even though she did not call the police, she would have if she saw a guy with a gun in her backyard.
McGowan deleted her tweet, but the two are still at odds with each other
After Milano’s clarification, Rose McGowan deleted her tweets. However, this isn’t the first time the Charmed co-stars went at it against each other. Previously, McGowan accused Milano of making the Charmed set toxic and called her a fraud too. She accused her of hypocrisy after Milano chose not to believe in Tara Reade’s allegations of sexual misconduct against Joe Biden. This was in clear contrast to her stance on the accusers against President Donald Trump and Brett Kavanaugh.
