Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish; Billboard Music Award Nominees

Billboard Music Awards 2020 Nominations officially came out this Tuesday. It seems that Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish leading the way. By being nominated in several top categories. Both A-list singers were nominated in categories such as Top Artist, Top Female Artist, and Top Billboard 200 Album. Topping rapper Eminem’s record. The “love story” singer secured the sixth Top Billboard 200 Album nomination.

Other nominations

Apart from these two fabulous female singers. Post Malone, Jonas Brothers, Ariana Grande, Khalid, and BTS also secured nominations in several different categories. BTS got nominated in the category of Top Duo/Group. And that also for the second consecutive year.

Billie Eilish has been nominated for ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go’. Taylor Swift is nominated for ‘Lover’. Khalid is nominated for ‘Free Spirit’. Post Malone was nominated for ‘Hollywood’s Bleeding’ and has been nominated for 15 other awards. And Ariana Grande is nominated for ‘Thank U, Next’.

Billie Eilish might become the best new artist

If she wins the best new artist award. Billie will become the first-ever female singer to win in that category after singer Lorde in 2014. The “Ocean Eyes” singer could also be the first lady musician to win a top Hot 100 song award. After Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass”, which she received in 2015.

If they win again, the Bangtan Boys (BTS) will come to be the first group nominated in the category to record consecutive wins after One Direction. OD won the category in 2015 and 2016.

Sadly, Dynamite BTS’s hot track could not be nominated for the BBAs this year. Because the awards show’s eligibility period is from March 23, 2019 – March 14, 2020. BTS has also been nominated for Top Social Artist. Avicii has gotten a delayed award nomination for Top Dance/Electronic Artist.

When are the Billboard Music Awards happening?

Usually, Billboard Music Awards takes place around the beginning of summer. Nevertheless, 2020 has been anything but usual. The pandemic outbreak pressed Hollywood to reschedule movies, music albums, live events, and awards shows.

Likewise, the Billboard Music Awards 2020 was also postponed. The influential awards show was planned to take place on the 29th of April this year. But Billboard declared that the awards show will take place on the 14th of October 2020, with Kelly Clarkson still as a host. Award shows such as the Emmys were also held virtually.

A statement from the Billboard Music Awards explained:

“The original eligibility period will remain intact to recognize and honor the chart-topping artists and musical successes achieved and to maintain consistent tracking periods for future shows.”
