After Game of Thrones ended, the stars of the show are now left with the difficult task of finding new avenues for their career. Similarly, Maisie Williams is no different. However, her inspiration for her future career path might surprise some. She looks up to Twilight stars Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart!
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Maisie Williams opened up about how she sees her future in the industry. She hopes to go the same direction that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart did after the Twilight saga. Williams told the THR:
“Yeah, I look up to Robert Pattinson, and I look up to Kristen Stewart. I love what they did. I mean, I love what Kristen Stewart did before ‘Twilight,’ but I really have watched so many of her movies since. I’ve really just been trying to understand what she did so well, the decisions she made and how that really affected the longevity of her career. So, yeah, I definitely do look up to the both of them, and yeah, I will be taking notes and following in their footsteps.”
How Maisie Williams’ career began just like the Twilight stars
Williams got unprecedented success and fame with her groundbreaking role as Arya Stark in HBO’s Game of Thrones. It’s a lot like how Stewart and Pattinson became overnight stars after the release of Twilight. Teenage girls were especially intrigued by Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. After the Twilight film series ended, Robert Pattinson did a number of critically acclaimed films. They include “The Rover,” “High Life,” “Good Time,” and “The Lighthouse”. Furthermore, Pattinson received praise for his performance in all of them.
And now, the actor has become the caped crusader in Warner Bros.’s upcoming Batman movie. Moreover, he also featured in Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet“, with critics praising him for his performance again. Things can’t be going better for him.
On the other hand, Kristen Stewart has featured in a lot of Indie films with some incredible performances. They include “Clouds of Sils Maria,” “Personal Shopper,” “Still Alice,” and “Seberg”. Now, she is set to star in the upcoming “Charlie’s Angels”. Both of their careers are a great source of inspiration for Williams, who is currently working on “The New Mutants.”
She would still prefer a career in television
That said, Maisie Williams also acknowledged that the industry is not like it was at the time of Twilight. She understands that TV shows are now a very powerful medium, more so than ever before. Therefore, her route will focus on television instead of movies. She further said:
“I mean, the industry is very different to what it was when ‘Twilight’ ended in that television has skyrocketed recently and not as many indie films are being made. The people who have these really wonderful indie stories have now started stretching them out and making them into TV shows because it’s more likely to get made.”
Specifically, Maisie Williams is interested in Indie films and TV shows. And he has been in touch with a few creators, saying:
“There are still indie filmmakers, and I have been meeting with a lot of them. But if there are enough indie movies who want to cast me, then yes, you can say that I will be doing indies for a long time. But I know that the industry is different now, and so I have to be weary of that, also.”
