As the new season (and sadly the last) of Crazy ex-girlfriend begins on the 12th of October on the CW, let’s discuss what the trailer has revealed so far about what’s going to happen to our beloved Rebecca Bunch.

Where We Left Off With Rebecca Bunch

Aired on the 16th of February 2017, the finale of Season 3 of Crazy ex-girlfriend aptly titled “Nathaniel is irrelevant” saw Trent wielding a huge knife and Rebecca getting her diagnosis and finally being held accountable for her actions. The episode ended with Rebecca pushing Trent off a balcony and Paula and Rebecca locking eyes in court. Paula finally coming to terms with Rebecca’s intention to be held accountable for her actions.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Does The Tango In Jail

In the trailer for season 4 of Crazy ex-girlfriend we can see that things are getting progressively worse for Rebecca Bunch. However, no matter how hard life has gotten for her it hasn’t stopped her from processing aspects of her life with musical theatre numbers.

So far in the trailer we haven’t gotten to see Rebecca Bunch sing yet, but there was definitely a glimpse of the highly anticipated song, “Cell Block Tango”.

In the trailer we also see a shot of the Girl Gang meeting with Rebecca in jail and possibly discussing ways to break her out (?) or maybe they were just dishing out information about the latest happenings in West Covina…. we’ll probably have to wait to find out what they were actually talking about until that particular episode airs *sigh*.

While Paula is working hard to help Rebecca get out of jail, not everyone in West Covina is doing well with the time they have on their hands. In the trailer we see a very sad Josh Chan and a reckless Nathaniel Plimpton (Rebecca’s boss and love interest in Season 3) who is shown as going on extreme trips called “Death Wish Adventure” to help him reset – hopefully he won’t get himself killed off before the finale….

The Return Of Greg

Greg finally returns as “New Greg” in Season 4.

Previously played by Santino Fontana in Season 1of Crazy ex-girlfriend – Greg was the side-dude pining after the love of Rebecca Bunch, who was so caught up with her feelings for Josh Chan that she didn’t even recognize his feelings for her.

And, when Rebecca Bunch finally did realize that she liked Greg, he moved away in the beginning of Season 2, leaving her to live with the consequences of being blinded by her ambition for Josh.

The “New Greg” for season 4 of Crazy ex-girlfriend is going to be Skylar Astin (from Pitch Perfect).
Fans were highly disappointed after that revelation because they wanted Santino Fontana back, but it is revealed that the “New Greg” will be a “reimagined” version of the character.

“We felt like we had completed his arc a bit. Now bringing the character of Greg back, he is part of our storytelling. It’s a plot point in the story that the character is reimagined, so it’s going to be played by a different actor, which is Skylar,” McKenna told reporters in attendance according to EW.

Bloom additionally added that the move to cast a new actor as Greg in Crazy ex-girlfriend definitely “feels experimental,” but that it feeds into the playful feel of the series as a whole.

“It’s a great statement on how our perception of people changes, and Greg is sort of a barometer for how Rebecca changes,” said Bloom

With an 18 episode line up, we can’t wait for Season 4 to start! With speculations about the Season 4 finale being the best that “Crazy ex-girlfriend” has to offer, we’re sad that we’ll be bidding our final farewell to the best female duo in recent television history – Aline Brosh McKenna and Rachel Bloom.

We can’t be more excited for the premier.
