Fans Want Netflix To Bring Back ‘Patriot Act With Hasan Minhaj’
Netflix recently dropped a bomb on many of its subscribers. They decided to drop the curtain permanently on ‘Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj’. However, that decision did not sit well with many of the fans. They are now demanding Netflix to bring back the talk show, and there’s a petition going around as well.
Fans are angry at Netflix for canceling Patriot Act
As soon as news broke out that Netflix has canceled Patriot Act, fans started mourning. And obviously, the first one to react with outrage on the news was Twitter. Fellow comedian Phillip DeFranco tweeted in support of Hasan Minhaj, saying he was almost “jealous” of his show:
Really disappointed and surprised to see this. Since it launched I’ve been impressed and honestly a little jealous of how well done and entertaining Patriot Act was. https://t.co/OUo2oNUFlI

Moreover, another Twitter user Anjali Bhimani asked Netflix what would it take to bring ‘Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj’ back. She tweeted:
This breaks my heart. @hasanminhaj what you have done with @patriotact is some of my favorite journalism of this last insane four years. @netflix what do we need to do to keep Patriot Act in our lives??? https://t.co/1wEjZbz7oR

Apart from these tweets, people were attacking Netflix left, right, and center for canceling ‘Patriot Act’. There was also a petition making rounds to bring back ‘Patriot Act’, which got over 12,000 signatures, and counting. Some even joked that when Hasan Minhaj threw shade at Netflix jokingly for being a giant evil corporation, that’s when Netflix decided to pull the plug on him:
this is the joke that got the plug pulled #PatriotAct pic.twitter.com/cB2HeDUgLk

Moreover, Twitter users also threw shade at Netflix’s CUTIES. The upcoming show is accused of being Islamophobic and sexualizing children. They highlighted that Netflix was going forward with such a controversial show, but was not willing to bring back ‘Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj’:
Netflix cancelled @patriotact but is releasing a movie about 11 year olds twerking and is rated TV-MA?
Where’s this fucking meteor at? When will the sun explode and turn into a black star? pic.twitter.com/rOs0oBi08b— ✨Want to commit unalive✨ (@Bellechan2350) August 19, 2020
Moreover, Hasan Minhaj is a perfect representation of the Indian American community. Now that Netflix canceled his show, the community only has Lily Singh to boast about. And that did not make people happy at all. Other users were calling some other streaming giant to pull a Brooklynn 99 on ‘Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj’:
Can @patriotact pls pull a B99 and be back on another streaming service??? :/

However, this raises the question that why did Netflix end up canceling ‘Patriot Act’, despite its success?
Why did Netflix pull the plug on Hasan Minhaj?

With ‘Patriot Act’, Netflix thought they were finally done with their search for their perfect Talk Show. Time Magazine named Hasan Minhaj as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Even fellow comedian Trevor Noah said at the time,
“We’ve needed Hasan’s voice since Donald Trump came down that golden escalator and turned immigrants and Muslims into his targets.”
But, that love story did not have a happy ending. Usually, Netflix pulls the plug on shows when they aren’t generating enough viewers. They weigh that with the production cost of the show, according to Forbes. Netflix recently has struggled to find a perfect Talk Show that could run for decades. But, their search continues even after the success ‘Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj’ experienced. Do you think Netflix made a big mistake by pulling the plug on ‘Patriot Act’? Should they bring the show back? Let us know in the comments below.
