The Disney Star Wars sequels are what really put John Boyega in the limelight. His role as Finn was one of the most unique characters in the entire franchise. However, all good things must come to an end, and so has Boyega’s interest in Star Wars. The actor recently said that he “moved on” from the franchise, causing a lot of uproars. As a result, he clarified further on his position to not work in Star Wars for a while.

John Boyega opens up about Star Wars on Twitter

John Boyega’s recent announcement caused a bit of outrage among Star Wars fans. But, he went on to clarify his stance further on Twitter. However, he wasn’t as subtle as anyone would like. At first, he quoted Variety‘s article about his comments on Instagram with:

Isn’t that what people do when a role is done? Or …. it’s not that deep.

After that, Boyega responded to a Twitter user’s reply underneath his tweet with:

“I am grateful but yes you should close the door for a long time if anything. Key word is versalitilly. One role cannot fulfill that. Lol let me do my job and you lot just watch please. The lines are too blurred lol”

These comments by John Boyega came after the Star Wars star replied to a comment by a fan on Instagram, saying how he “moved on” from Star Wars and was not interested in working in the franchise for a while. He further mentioned how “not into playing one role for too long” and has “more to offer than that”.

And looking at the fact that he spent the last 4 years working on this franchise, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac have every reason to not work in the franchise for a while. Of course, we’ll see these characters in other Star Wars canon content. But, they deserve a break from the silver screen. However, there could be more to Boyega moving on from the franchise.

Moreover, John Boyega must be disappointed with Finn’s character arc across the trilogy as well. Finn had an amazing character arc in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but the following films didn’t do him any justice. A Storm Trooper who defected to the good side had the infinite potential to become an all-time great character. But, it wasn’t to be. He expressed his concerns about the Last Jedi, saying:

The Force Awakens I think was the beginning of something quite solid, The Last Jedi if I’m being honest I’d say that was feeling a bit iffy for me. I didn’t necessarily agree with a lot of the choices in that and that’s something that I spoke to Mark [Hamill] a lot about and we had conversations about it. And it was hard for all of us, because we were separated.

This shows that Boyega did have some genuine concerns about the writing in the trilogy. Who knows, maybe if the writers did a better job, Boyega may still have been a part of the franchise one way or another.
