Chance the Rapper Donates To Charity
Chance the Rapper, whose real name is Chancellor Bennett believes in giving something back to his hometown Chicago. Recently, he announced that he was donating $1 million for the improvement of mental health services in Chicago. Not just that, but Chance the Rapper is also pledging $100,000 each to 20 area schools. And his charity SocialWorks will be making all these donations.
On Thursday, Chance the Rapper announced that his charity organization will distribute $100,000 to six mental health providers in the area. This latest donation for mental health improvement lines perfectly with his new initiative. Chance the Rapper aims to connect people to mental health treatment via his recent program “My State of Mind”. While talking about it further, the rapper said that they wanted to change the way mental health resources are accessed. According to him, they needed a new space where people could get information on how they feel. Additionally, they could use this space to form a network to interact and review other mental health spaces. And also, to create a community where people could help other people. The applications for this grant start from January 2019. People will be selected based on their applications once they begin.
Previously, the rapper has also been vocal about mental health issues. And remains an open critic of Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the 2012 closure of six city-run mental health clinics.
Apart from this, Chance the Rapper also claimed that his charity organization will distribute $100,000 each to 20 Chicago schools. And that makes a total of 40 schools that receive donation from the rapper. Chance the Rapper added to this saying that they will be improving the game in terms of equity and in terms of what was rightfully theirs. He assured the principals and teachers that he and his organization had their back.
Chance the Rapper has not specified the fate of the other remaining $400,000. But over the course of the last two years, his organization has given out $4.2 million in donations to Chicago Public Schools, among his other charitable efforts. It seems like the rapper is really putting his money and efforts to great use!
