For promotions of her new film, A Star Is Born, Lady Gaga made an appearance on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show on Thursday night. And although, it was supposed to be a lighthearted appearance, Lady Gaga made impassioned statements for Dr. Ford. The actress also blasted the US President Donald Trump for mocking Dr. Ford when she accused his Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault. In fact, she even labelled the entire debate on the credibility of the claims as the most upsetting thing she had even witnessed. Not only that, but Lady Gaga brought forward her own story as a sexual assault survivor.

When talking to Stephen Colbert, Lady Gaga claimed that it was heartbreaking to see people mock Dr. Ford for coming out with her sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. While speaking forcefully, Lady Gaga asserted that she was herself a sexual assault survivor. She then referred to Donald Trump claiming that since Dr. Ford had no memory of how she got to the party, should her claims of assault be trusted? Lady Gaga said that yes, she should be. She said that she knew Dr. Ford was a psychologist so she was smart. And definitely not a dummy. Gaga added that if people are assaulted or undergo some trauma, they change. And it’s scientifically proven because it’s just biology. The brain changes and puts the trauma aside in a box so that people can survive the pain.

Lady Gaga further said that it also does a lot many other things. It causes body pain and baseline elevations in anxiety. And it’s natural to not want to remember or think what happened to you. But when Dr. Ford saw that Kavanaugh was soon to be nominated to one of the most important positions of power in the country, her box opened. And she was triggered into coming forward with her assault claims. Lady Gaga said that Dr. Ford was brave enough to come forward and protect the country.

The rest of her interview with Stephen Colbert talked about her upcoming movie, personal traits and talents. But the number of celebrities extending support to Dr. Ford against Kavanaugh is iconic.
