Redundancy ruins every flavor eventually. Things are better finite, original and exclusive- and perhaps this is the idea that has led Chris Evans to hang up his shield as Captain America. Avengers 4 has been in the news lately due to speculations about the journey of several Marvel heroes coming to an end. Thanos did not kill Iron Man and Captain America. But, in the upcoming days, it is highly likely that we will lose some of our favorite heroes as we approach Phase three.
According to some latest developments, the major walkouts will include seasoned actor Chris Evans, MCU’s very own Captain America. Evans has played Captain America to perfection for 8 long years. Starring across ten films, Evans’ Captain America debuted in The First Avenger: Captain America. Chris portrayed one of the original cinematic Avengers alongside Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye.
He’s now finished filming Avengers 4, Marvel’s 22nd film, and tweeted to say that playing Cap has been “an honor”.
“Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day, to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.”
Now, this is, of course, no official confirmation of the fact, but strong hints can be read between the lines. This is certainly no regular pack up.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has given Hollywood its biggest blockbusters, starting back in 2008 with Iron Man. And, when Captain America was released back in 2011, the film garnered what is rather distinctive for superhero flicks. A general thumb rule is: either the film can be lucrative, or it can be good. Drawing away from these stereotypes Captain America was both; it grossed more than $370 million worldwide and got critics to applaud its genius.
Evans exit will indeed puncture an odd void on the future of the franchise. He honestly deserves a standing O’ for his years of association with MCU. This is something that clearly justifies the several Cap badges floating on social media. Fans have indeed been left disillusioned by the exit of their national hero. Cap, a man who simply wanted to patriotically defend America against Nazis, got injected with supernatural powers that enabled him to serve his purpose better. Chris Evans got Captain America a myriad of devoted fanatics. He carved for himself a legacy, something that will remain preserved for times to come.
Cap’s exit from the saga has been long overdue. Even Evans expressed that it would be better to step out of the bus before one gets kicked out. Avengers 4 will be a perish song for several long-time heroes and it is to be seen who these figures will eventually be written out. Chris had given Cap an altogether different perspective. Even those who did not warm up to the character in the comics adored Chris’ commendable portrayal. Chris was Captain America, and no one can ever recreate his bewitching magic. If Cap survives, it will still be hard for us to accept him other than Evans.
Now begins the speculation over whether Steve and his glorious beard (not Sharon Carter) will survive the events of the film and make the choice to hang up his star-spangled duds, or whether Thanos will grind him into a fine, dusty paste.
The film which is expected to air in May 2019, is yet to get its title. Not much can be said about the impending storm it’s bringing along. But it can be safely assumed that there will be major changes. On a brighter note, Chris has signed Rian Johnson’s upcoming mystery picture, Knives Out.
