In order to cast the three leading ladies, Mindy Kaling posted an open call on social media
While Hollywood has been predominately white for decades, things have started changing now. Therefore, Never Have I Ever coming to Netflix was a huge step forward in South Asian community’s representation. The credit for that goes to Mindy Kaling who broke many stereotypes about South Asians through this show. While dealing with the death of her father, Devi is also trying to change her social status. However, her friends and family do not entirely understand her. Just like any teenager, she constantly have conflicts with her mother. For the three main roles of Indian characters in the show, Mindy Kaling posted an open call on Twitter. That is how she casted Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Poorna Jagannathan and Richa Moorjani. After the success of first season, people wanted Never Have I Ever’s season 2.
