The Marvel star, Don Cheadle appeared on The Tonight Show by Jimmy Fallon and recalled the countless number of times when the police have stopped him. He told the host that just because he fit the description, there have been instances more than he can count when the police have stopped him for questioning. This episode comes amidst the ongoing anti-racist and anti-black protests all across the country where people are calling for an end to systemic racism and police brutality. The actor even revealed that black families actively try to train their children how to handle and respond to the police to avoid any trouble.

Don Cheadle Recalls His Past Growing Up As A Person of Color

“The rules of just how to make sure you can come home and be safe and what you had to do unfortunately was something that was put into our minds very early.” -Don Cheadle

He later mentioned that the policed have stopped him countless times just because he fit the description for them. More shockingly, he also has a gun put to his head. Then he would simply finish their sentences.

“They’d go, ‘We’re stopping you because…’ and I’d go, ‘I fit the description. I know'”

Don Cheadle explains that he has friends who were almost killed by the police for no reason at all. To him, the tragedy of George Floyd was not something new to him because there are so many other videos that are waiting to come out. In fact, there are instances that are not even on the cameras and phones even.

Don Cheadle thinks that while it is great that Joe Biden put himself in a townhall discussion, he would have to continue doing such activities if he really wants to gain trust. To him, the elections are going to be tough, and “it is going to be an uphill battle.”
