Sir Ian Holm, ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Star Dies At 88

2020 is a year that most of us would love to forget. But, it looks like it has taken away another beloved actor from us. Lord of the Rings star Sir Ian Holm died at the age of 88. He was most famous for portraying Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s trilogy,
Sir Ian Holm ‘Bilbo Baggins’ passes away
Moments ago, Alex Irwin, his agent, announced that Sir Ian Holm died, in a statement, saying:
It is with great sadness thatthe actor Sir Ian Holm CBE passed away this morning at the age of 88. He died peacefully in hospital, with his family and carer.
The statement further disclosed that Sir Ian Holm died because of Parkinson’s disease. However, this wasn’t Sir Ian’s only encounter with a disease. In 2002, Sir Ian was treated for prostate cancer in the UK and the US. And with Sir Ian’s death, a very celebrated career comes to an end.
An icon of the British Film Industry

Sir Ian Holm was truly a legend for the British Film industry. And as all great actors did, he began his career in the theatre. Watching Les Miserable as a boy inspired him to pursue acting as a career. Therefore, he enrolled in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1949 before joining the Royal Shakespeare Company.
However, Sir Ian’s career was cut short because of stage fright. But, he did return to the theatre from time to time to perform some memorable roles. He also won the Olivier award for his portrayal of King Lear at the National Theatre. Apart from that, he also won Tony and BAFTA awards and was a member of the prestigious Royal Shakespeare Company.

But, his most famous work for in the 1981 hit Chariots of Fire, and Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. Sir Ian got an Oscar nomination for his role Sam Mussabini in Chariots of Fire. However, nerds will remember him for his role as Bilbo Baggins in Lord of the Rings.
Fans will love his memorable role as Bilbo Baggins and cherish it for many generations to come. They all pray that Sir Ian Holm rests in peace.
