Emily Giffin Reflects On Her ”Mean” Criticism of Meghan Markle
As many of you may remember, Emily Giffin called Meghan Markle “phony” and “unmaternal” about a month ago. The author, who showed a grudge against the Duchess of Sussex, took to Twitter to rant.
When Meghan Markle shared a video of herself with her toddler in honor of his first birthday, Emily pointed out that she looked “unmaternal.” She also said the video was uncomfortable to watch. Moreover, Emily also shared text messages she sent to a friend about Meghan, bashing her as much as she could.

However, people were quick to bash Emily for her hateful comments. People even went on to the Amazon page of her bestseller book and exploded the reviews section, calling her a hateful woman. And discouraging people from buying her book. All this backlash generated an apology from her. She issued a statement on Instagram.
“I can see how some of my posts may have felt mean-spirited. And could be construed as having racial undertones. It was not my intent. But I understand that intent and impact are two very different things. And I am truly sorry for that negative impact,” Emily had said in her statement.

And now, almost a month later, Emily Giffin is doing some reflecting. The author told The Huffington Post:
“I need to be more careful about the impact of my words. Being unfiltered, which is what I’ve chosen to be and the person I am in real life, and the person that you see on social media, definitely means that I’m going to make mistakes, too.”
Moreover, Emily also admitted to the publication that she realizes her mistake. But that her comments were just mean and not legitimate at all.
