Taylor Swift: Voting Is Vital To Fight ”Police Brutality and Racism”
Taylor Swift is using her privilege and her platform to stress something important. And that is voting. Keep reading to find out why Taylor thinks it’s so important for people to vote.
The singer took to Twitter to write, “Racial injustice has been ingrained deeply into local and state governments, and changes MUST be made there. In order for policies to change, we need to elect people who will fight against police brutality and racism of any kind. #BlackLivesMatter.”
Why Taylor Thinks Voting Is Important
She said it is important to elect the right kind of people who will bring the change we want. Otherwise, there is no use fighting or protesting if the people in charge won’t do something about it. The change can only come from there. And to elect the right kind of people who make sure the police is accountable for its actions, it is vital to vote for the right kind of people.
Furthermore, Taylor shared an article written by Barack Obama, called “How to Make this Moment the Turning Point for Real Change,” in which he says it’s up to the new generation to keep up the momentum following the nationwide protests and riots in response to the brutal murder of George Floyd.
Taylor called the article “a fascinating read about changing policy at the state and local levels.” In terms of that, Obama wrote that it’s important for people to understand “which levels of government have the biggest impact on our criminal justice system and police practices.”
Taylor additionally shared more information on anything her followers needed to know in order to vote. She then shared a vote.org resource.
“We need to fight for in-mail voting for the 2020 election,” she wrote in another tweet. “No one should have to choose between their health and having their voice heard.”
