Although he is best known for Outlander, Sam Heughan has appeared in countless theater plays.

As a student, he appeared in Outlying Islands, a Scottish play by David Greig. For this performance, Sam Heughan was nominated for Laurence Olivier Award for Most Promising Performer. After that, he appeared in several TV shows like River City, Island at War, The Wild West and Midsomer Murders. However, he always went back to his theater roots. Between 2007 and 2009, he made appearances in live productions like The Vortex, Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet. In 2013, Sam Heughan was cast as Jamie Fraser in Outlander. Recently, he revealed his dream role.

Along with his Outlander co-star, Graham McTavish, Sam Heughan will appear in a new show. In order to explore Scottish culture and history, the actors will travel all over Scotland in their show, Men in Kilts: Roadtrip With Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish. While promoting it on Good Morning America, Heughan revealed his dream role. He said:

“I love Macbeth. Actually, in ‘Men in Kilts’ we do visit some interesting places that are connected to the story of Macbeth, whether it’s true or not. There’s a lot of superstition and dark tales that Shakespeare used in Macbeth, [like] witchcraft, which obviously is a big part of Scottish history as well. We explore all of those things. So I think Macbeth.”
