If you’re a fan of makeover shows and wholesome friendships, you must be a fan of Queer Eye. Since the show released, Tan France, the fashion guru, has become an enigma. Recently, he became a US national after 20 years.

Born in a strict Muslim household, Tan France is the first openly gay South Asian on TV.

Although he came into spotlight due to Queer Eye, he has since become a star for fashion lovers. Apart from Queer Eye, Tan France has hosted shows like Dressing Funny and Next in Fashion. Born and raised in Doncaster, England, his real name is Tanveer Wasim Safdar and is a Pakistani. Despite his family’s negative view of homosexuality, France has been open about his sexual orientation. After moving to US in 2008, he started his own fashion lines and met his husband, Rob France. In 2019, France released his memoir, Naturally Tan, which is about his childhood, being a gay Muslim and life in US.

Recently, he became a US national after working towards it for 20 years.

Amid chaos, a pandemic and on-going protests, Tan France celebrated a significant moment. In an Instagram, he announced that he is officially a US national. The fashion guru wrote:

A few minutes ago, I officially became an U.S citizen!! For me, this is monumental. It’s something I’ve been working towards for literally 20 years, which makes this all the more emotional. And now, I will exercise my constitutional right as an American. Today, I will register to vote, and vote for the change I wish to see in OUR nation.

After this news, Karamo, Bobby, Antoni and Jonathan congratulate him in their own way. Along with them, celebrities like Courtney Cox, Gigi Hadid, Mindy Kaling and Ashley Benson welcomed him. Tan France’s husband, Rob France was there with him through this monumental step of his life.
