Kumail Nanjiani Asks How Is Police Brutality Justified?
After another video of police brutality resurfaces, Kumail Nanjiani asks why is it justified.
Celebrities are speaking out against police brutality. With Black Lives Matter at the forefront of national news, everyone is lining up to support the movement. Similarly, Kumail Nanjiani is also questioning police brutality as he is outraged by a video.
A video of police brutality has angered Nanjiani
Recently, a video emerged of an elderly white man being shoved and thrown on the ground by the police. Instead of helping the elderly man, the police walked past him as he lay unconscious with blood coming out of his head. As Kumail Nanjiani saw it, he was outraged by the police’s behavior. He shared the video and asked how “violence by this cop was justified?”:
Can one person who watches this video tell me the violence by this cop was justified? https://t.co/8HerHgbYCP

However, Nanjiani was far from done. He further criticized the Buffalo Police Department that they tried to cover up the incident. Moreover, he said the problem was no far more than just a single bad apple. Kumail Nanjiani tweeted:
Buffalo PD officially said that the man tripped & fell. If we didn’t have video there would have been no accountability. Why? Because one “bad apple” pushed him down but 20 “good apples” would have let him get away with it. It’s systemic.

Furthermore, Nanjiani also enlisted how flawed the approach of the police is in dealing with the protesters. He said that by taking the violent approach, many other videos of police brutality emerged on social media:
1. Police decided to violently quell protests to loudly proclaim they won’t change.
2. The strategy backfired because we now have 100’s of videos of cops using excessive force. Ppl who didn’t think police brutality was an issue last week now believe police reform to be essential.

Later on, news came that Buffalo PD had taken the officers off of their emergency response team. However, that wasn’t enough for Nanjiani. He further tweeted that the officers should simply be fired.
Protests are being subjected to police brutality
Kumail Nanjiani isn’t the only one livid at the state of police brutality in the United States. After the recent killing of George Floyd, protests erupted all across the United States. However, instead of the government taking a softer approach to the protesters’ outrage, they became violent. Police are violently attacking the protesters and Donald Trump is backing their actions.
This increase in police violence in America on protests against police violence just shows how law enforcement and Donald Trump have failed in their approach towards Black Lives Matter. That is why Kumail Nanjiani makes a valid point by questioning by police brutality is justified.
