Celebrities are out protesting for Black Lives Matter around the world. Similarly, Star Wars actor John Boyega has also joined BLM protesters at Hyde Park in London. He gave a very passionate speech on a loudspeaker in front of the protesters, which earned him a lot of valid praise. Moreover, even Disney and Lucasfilm announced that they back John Boyega and his action for BLM.
Boyega’s passionate speech on Black Lives Matter makes rounds on social media!
There’s no secret that Boyega is one of the most outspoken celebrities when it comes to Black Lives Matter. He has openly tweeted that he “hates” racists and completely backs his opinions. However, his activism isn’t limited to Twitter. Yesterday, he went to Hyde Park in London and gave an electrifying speech to the emotionally-charged crowd. And it earned him a lot of praise, including from his employers Disney. Boyega, while holding back his tears, said:
Today is about innocent people who were halfway through their process. We don’t know what George Floyd could have achieved, we don’t know what Sandra Bland could have achieved, but today we’re going to make sure that won’t be an alien thought to our young ones.
Moreover, John Boyega also spoke about how painful racism and this brutality really is:
I need you to understand how painful this sh*t is. I need you to understand how painful it is to be reminded every day that your race means nothing and that isn’t the case anymore, that was never the case anymore.
Boyega also spoke how everyone protesting were representatives of all those who lost their lives because of racism, including George Floyd, Trayvon Martin, Stephen Lawrence, Sandra Bland, and others. John Boyega was so charged for this protest admitted that he did not care about his career anymore:
Look, I don’t know if I’m going to have a career after this, but f*ck that.
However, Disney proved him wrong.
Disney backs their man
As Boyega’s speech went viral, Disney and Lucasfilm went to Star Wars’ official Instagram page to say that they support Boyega and his activism. Disney wrote:
Lucasfilm stands with John Boyega and his message that now is the time. Black lives have always mattered. Black lives have always been important. Black lives have always meant something. The evil that is racism must stop. We will commit to being part of the change that is long overdue in the world. John Boyega, you are our hero.
But, that’s not all. Apart from Disney, other film directors and producers reassured Boyega about his career too. They include JJ Abrams and Mathew Cherry too.
I would work with John Boyega and I urge other Non-Black creators to affirm that they have his back as well. https://t.co/SqXgmIS5aR

You KNOW that as long as I’m allowed to keep working, I’ll always be begging to work with you. Deep respect and love, my friend. https://t.co/DcMEwEmzh9

These words by Disney and other directors and producers give a good image of Hollywood. It is important that the industry tries whatever it can to get rid of racism. and by openly backing John Boyega, they did a good job. But, they have to be work harder. The perfect example is Ben & Jerry’s statement against Black Lives Matter and White Supremacy. Disney should follow their example, or at least the example set by John Boyega’s speech.
