Another black man has died during protests over the murder of George Floyd, but this time people claim that he was innocent. David McAtee was shot by police in a skirmish that occurred between him and two officers in Louisville, Kentucky. The social media reported that McAtee used to give free barbecues at his BBQ shack before the protests erupted. However, recent reports are pointing towards something else. Right now, the update is that the police chief of the city has been fired as Mayor explains the incident to the press.

Was The Black Man That Died Innocent?

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, while talking about the incident said:

“This type of institutional failure will not be tolerated. Accordingly, I have relieved Steve Conrad of his duties as chief of Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD).”

The protests in Louisville have centered around the killing of Breonna Taylor who was an emergency medical technician.  Three LMPD officers forced themselves into her apartment with a search warrant in narcotics investigation but shot her multiple times.

For David McAtee, the black that died only a couple of days back, it seems like he was not as innocent as social media is portraying him to be. Turns out that he shot at the National Guards and the police first before they returned fire. A recent CCTV video has emerged which shows McAtee actively involved in striking horns with law enforcement. Take a look below:

David McAtee, the black man that died, owned YaYa BBQ near the corner of South 26th Street and Broadway and his mother called the place a community pillar. The National Guard and the police were busy dispersing crowd when they were dispatched to break up a large crowd at Dino’s Food Mart, which is near McAtee’s barbecue shack. Officers report that they only returned fire after they were getting shot at. However, their body cameras were not on.
