Koreans Teaching Us Self-Love Through BTS
The Korean septet BTS landed in America for their Love Yourself world tour. And kicked it off at Los Angeles’ Staples Center on 5th September. They will remain in America till October 5th when they perform their last show at New York City’s Citi Field. The boy band not only did its concerts, but also appeared on television shows including popular ones like NBC’s America’s Got Talent and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and ABC’s Good Morning America. From discussing their music, and sold-out world tour, BTS also advocated self-love. It’s a message that’s been associated with the band for a long time and one of the reasons why it’s so loved!
BTS Promotes Self-Love
The Korean septet BTS consists of rappers RM, Suga and J-Hope and vocalists Jin, Jimin, V and Jungkook. RM also serves as the band’s point person. And with his speeches at numerous occasions in America, the man has reflected on the importance of self-love and self-worth.
During the speech at the UN, RM decided to promote the idea of finding one’s own voice. And speaking up for one’s own self. Not just that, but he linked it to the thematic ideal of BTS- self-love. In fact, this theme is apparent in last three of their albums Love Yourself: Her, Love Yourself: Tear and Love Yourself: Answer. RM also focused on the fact that BTS does not give out this message to the global listeners only. But also for their own selves. He said that BTS might have become a band that sells millions of albums. But he was still an ordinary 24-year old guy. He has made mistakes in the past, and he is still the same person. But he today, he is someone with all of his faults and mistakes.
BTS kept coming back to their topic of self-love countless times during their appearances in America. Again, on the sets of Good Morning America, RM elaborated on the Love Yourself philosophy. According to RM, the new generation needs true love. And it begins with loving one’s own self. He said that reminding the words of Loving Yourself might mean something to the army and to themselves. Further, RM believed that true love only begins with loving one’s own self first. And he hoped that the army could do the same.
BTS is still in America for a few more days. And they’ve taught us self-love which is desperately needed in times like these!
