Wife of Derek Chauvin, Cop Who killed George Floyd, Divorces Him

Earlier this week, a sad incident happened in Minneapolis where a cop murder George Floyd. Since then, the US has seen multiple protests, looting and demands of justice all over the country. However, he has been arrested and now wife of Derek Chauvin is divorcing him.

Once again, a racial crime was committed by a police officer in the USA.

On 25th May, George Floyd, a black man, was killed by Derek Chauvin, a white police officer in Minneapolis. When a deli owner filed a complaint that Floyd used a fake twenty-dollar bill, the police arrested him. According to the police, he resisted getting out of his vehicle. However, a video being circulated on the internet shows otherwise. In the video, the police officers drag him out and handcuff him while he is lying on the road. In order to restrain his movement, Derek Chauvin puts his knee on George Floyd’s neck. After eight minutes, Floyd’s limp body is removed from the road. Since then, protests have been going on and the black community is raged. While the cop has been arrested, the wife of Derek Chauvin has also decided to leave him.

After his arrest, wife of Derek Chauvin has filed for divorce and requested privacy

Not only is he fired from his job, but Chauvin is also under arrest and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter. At the same time, the wife of Derek Chauvin, Kellie Chauvin, has filed for divorce from him. According to a statement released by the wife of Derek Chauvin’s lawyer:

“She is devastated by Mr. Floyd’s death and her utmost sympathy lies with his family, with his loved ones and with everyone who is grieving this tragedy. While Ms. Chauvin has no children from her current marriage, she respectfully requests that her children, her elder parents, and her extended family be given safety and privacy during this difficult time.”

If he gets convicted, Chauvin will spend up to 35 years in prison. Despite, curfew, protesters in Minneapolis are active and demand justice.
