CNN’s Black Reporter Omar Jimenez Arrested During Minneapolis Protests
Another black man, Omar Jimenez, had to face the brutal Minneapolis law. CNN’s reporter was taken under custody during the Minneapolis protests on live television, in what seems to be, the most bizarre scenes of the riot. The event took place on Friday when Jimenez and his crew were taken away by the police. The arrest came amid protests in Minnesota and other parts of the country after a black man, George Floyd was killed by a policeman.
Police Capture Black Reporter During Minneapolis Protests
The bizarre incident occurred at 5 am on Friday when CNN’s reporter was respectfully presenting a report to the channel. The live video clearly shows Jimenez asking the officers the appropriate place to conduct his report so the crew would not stand in the way. Unfortunately, his requests fell on deaf ears as two officers approached him and told him that he was under arrest. Take a look at the video below:
CNN did not hold back to voice their anger over this on social media. The channel clearly distinguished Omar Jimenez as a black reporter. They told that while he was arrested, a white reporter did not go through the same process who was also there.

“A black reporter from CNN was arrested while legally covering the protests in Minneapolis. A white reporter also on the ground was not.”
According to what CNN said, their reporter Josh Campbell was also present in the area, a bit further away from the crew. Policemen approached him as well but he allowed to continue. On the other hand, CNN’s black reporter was arrested. In the video, we can see that Jimenez was being very respectful towards the police officers who were doing a street sweep in the morning in Minneapolis. The reporter was telling the officers:
“We can move back to where you like here. We are live on the air at the moment. This is the four of us, we are one team. Just put us back where you want us. We are getting out of your way. Just let us know.”
