On surface, Netflix’s The Politician seems a show about some high school students competing in school’s elections. However, every character is extremely complex and layered. There are many interesting and thought-provoking issues highlighted in the show. Therefore, when the first season came out, it grabbed the viewers’ attention. Recently, Netflix announced the release date for The Politician season 2.

Created by Ryan Murphy, Ben Platt starrer show is a crash course in high school politics

When Payton Hobart played by Ben Platt turned seven, he decided that he will be the president of the Unites States one day. However, before reaching the White House, he has to fight for the student body president position in his school. Opposite him is none other than River Barkley, played by David Corenswet. The popular, handsome River would definitely get the votes. However, right from the beginning, The Politician introduces a heart-breaking twist. Thus begins the unraveling of the truth behind these seemingly superficial, spoiled high school students from the wealthiest families in Santa Barbara. With this show, Ryan Murphy also made a debut on Netflix. Apart from Ben Platt and Corenswet, who can also be seen in Hollywood, the cast includes Zoey Dutch, Lucy Boynton, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jessica Lange. Right after its release, the news of The Politician season 2 started circulating.

According to Netflix, The Politician season 2 will be streaming from 19th June.

At the end of season one, Payton Hobart and the gang were ready to fight an even bigger battle. The last episode also introduced Judith Light and Bette Midler’s characters. In The Politician season 2, their characters will be in the spotlight. This time around, Payton is getting ready to unseat Senate Majority Leader Dede Standish, played by Light. As is with politics, sometimes you need to play dirty. Therefore, Payton might have to expose some secrets and lies.

Luckily, The Politician season 2 had finished filming before the lockdown of COVID-19. While the second season is releasing on 19th June, Murphy has unexpected plans for the future seasons. During an interview, Ryan Murphy said:

“I think where season 2 ends, what I would love to do is take a couple of years off and have Ben Platt get a little bit older for his final race. That would obviously be a presidential race, right? That’s always what we had designed, and I think that’s what our plan is. I’m going to wait. Ben is young, so I want to wait a couple of years to figure out how we age him up a little bit. But that’s always been my plan.”

Get ready to see what strategies Payton will use this time.
