Seinfeld Star Jason Alexander Was Bribed To Reveal Finale Secrets!
There’s no denying that corruption is a big problem in the world. However, can you imagine that it bleeds into TV shows too, that too just to leak the series finale? According to Jason Alexander, it happened to him with the Series Finale of Seinfeld.
George Costanza refused to take a bribe
Jason Alexander and Julia Louis-Dreyfus had a live session on Instagram where they recalled their favorite memories from Seinfeld. During that, they were discussing how crazy things got during shooting the Seinfeld finale. Things were so crazy that NBC built a wall around the set in Los Angeles just to push away the photographers. Dreyfus said:
I remember thinking at that time, ‘Seriously? Who gives a s***?’
After that, Jason Alexander revealed how his publicist at the time had a weird chat with him:
My own publicist — I don’t know if this came for you, too — my publicist was asking me if I was willing to leak out some secrets for money. And I went, ‘They’ll kill us!’ How can you do that?
Even Julia Louis-Dreyfus was surprised at hearing that, who hoped that Alexander fired the publicist, to which he said:
No, I gave him a raise.
An underwhelming finale
The Seinfeld finale had 76 million viewers, which is the fourth-highest in television history. To put it into perspective, Game of Thrones had 19 million. However, the reception both the finales got was quite similar. Fans weren’t content with the plot that the show went with, even though Larry David especially came back to write the finale. However, leaking the finale was tougher back in those days. There wasn’t any other way to leak it without the help of an insider, like Jason Alexander. But, that is no longer the case in the digital world right now, modern shows face regular leaks. So, in a way, George Costanza had it easy with the Seinfeld finale.
