Meghan Markle Gets Called “Un-Maternal” & “Phony”
Poor Meghan Markle just can’t seem to catch a break. Ever since Meghan announced her engagement to Prince Harry, she has been subjected to much speculation. From being talked about her career choice to being said she’s the reason to break apart the Royal Family. Meghan Markle has been the target of much scrutiny.
And now, if it’s not British tabloids coming after her, it’s the author, Emily Giffin.
On Wednesday, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry released a video of their toddler, Archie to celebrate his first birthday. Meghan can be seen reading to her baby. And Emily had something to say about that.
Emily shared screenshots of text messages on Instagram where she had called the Duchess of Sussex “phony” and “un-maternal.” She also wrote that the video was “uncomfortable to watch.”
Her messages were with a friend who she was texting her thoughts. She also said Meghan’s demeanor in the video “screamed look at me! Look at me! I need attention as the doting mother.”

Emily also shared a screen grab of Meghan with Archie from the video and captioned it, “Happy birthday, Archie, Go away, Megan.”
Moreover, she also posted a screenshot of a comment she made on her Instagram story. “Adorable child and book. But …. Holy “me first.” This is the Megan show,” she wrote, continuing to misspell Meghan’s name on purpose. “Why didn’t she film and let Harry read? And why didn’t she take the moment at the end to say “he said daddy!” Because that would make it about Harry for a split second, God forbid… also, you want privacy for your child so you put out a video (by your authorized biographer) of him… wearing no pants?! Ooookay….”
Emily Giffin Receives Backlash For Hateful Comments About Meghan Markle
And of course, the author went on to receive serious backlash for her comments about the Duchess. And rightfully so. For someone who has seen the video, there is nothing “phony” or “un-maternal” about Meghan. She looks genuinely happy and in love with her son. But I guess most people can’t stand others being happy.
Emily Giffin, when received backlash, turned her Instagram and Twitter from public to private accounts. And people on the internet went on to review her book on Amazon, telling potential buyers what a hateful woman she is. Emily then issued a statement explaining herself on her now-public Instagram. But the damage has already been done. Read the statement here.
