After the first couple of installments, the X-Men film franchise stopped sitting well with fans of Marvel comics. Yet, the X-Men cartoons that aired in the ’90s were a huge hit among the same audience. There were countless reasons why Fox’s Superhero Universe couldn’t be as successful as the MCU. Despite many flaws, there’s no doubt that the X-Men movies got one thing right and that is having Hugh Jackman play Logan/Wolverine!
Wolverine: The Saving Grace of X-Men Movies!
Apart from the Deadpool movies and Dark Phoenix, one thing common in every live-action X-Men movie is Hugh Jackman’s presence. Even though he didn’t have a substantial role in “First Class” and “Apocalypse”, he still made a cameo in these films.
Moreover, Logan was the first character to receive his own trilogy. To say that he did justice to the character he was playing would be an understatement.
Once the MCU started picking up steam after 2010, fans started dreaming about X-Men potentially crossing over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Just imagine Jackman’s Wolverine interacting with the likes of Iron-Man and Captain America… yeah, keep on imagining because…
Hugh Jackman says “NO” to Reprising Wolverine in the MCU!
“The Greatest Showman” star left the X-Men franchise on a high note. His final outing as Wolverine “Logan” was a critical and commercial success. However, by that time, Disney hadn’t acquired Fox. Once the “greatest acquisition in the history” took place, the likeliness of an X-Men/Avengers crossover increased significantly.
But when the X-Men finally appear in an MCU movie, will Hugh Jackman be with them? Apparently no. Even though the Australian actor was once interested in joining forces with the Avengers, he believes that he hanged up his boots at the right time, not only for himself but for the character as well. He told The Daily Beast:
“Somebody else will pick it up and run with it. It’s too good of a character not to. It’s kind of like, you’re on your way home and your friend rings you and goes, ‘Oh, dude, a new DJ just came on and the music is awesome, are you going to come back?’ And you say, ‘Sounds good but… no.’ They’re fine with someone else.”
So, even though we can rule out Hugh Jackman from appearing in any future MCU movie as Wolverine, it’s time for you to tell us who should be the next Wolverine. Name your choices in the comments section!
