Maya Hawke Admits To Her Privilege As Uma Thurman’s Daughter
It’s not too often that we see Hollywood stars admit that they have it better than others. But in her recent interview, Maya Hawke owned up to her privilege. She opened up about her success and the role of her famous parents, Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, in it. Moreover, she also made a bold statement about her parents’ generation. She mentioned how they had it easy and messed things up for the upcoming generations.
Hawke owns up to her family’s influence
In a recent interview with Nylon Magazine, Maya Hawke went into great detail about her career. And she was quite open about it. While talking to them, the Stranger Things star said:
Oh god, I’m well aware that every part I get is somehow influenced by the history of who I am as a person and where I come from. I’m a not-that-famous, not-that-successful young actress, but if I get cast in something, it will get PR.
However, Maya Hawke doesn’t let this get to her head. She says she takes the opportunity she gets and tries her best to deliver in them:
If I spent all my time worrying that someone’s going to think I don’t have the right to make music because I act in movies, or I don’t have the right to act in movies because my parents are famous… it’s just too boring. I will get the opportunities I get. I will try as hard as I can to be brilliant in them.
But, having influential parents doesn’t mean she gets a free pass throughout her life. In fact, Maya Hawke admits that if she doesn’t perform well, she’ll eventually stop getting any gigs. Despite the privilege, she only has five chances:
I don’t get the chance to suck more than five times. You know like, I’ll get five chances to suck, maybe. And if I suck at all five, then they’ll be done with me.
She also calls out her parents’ generation for messing the planet up
Hawke also shared her believes about her parents’ generation. She claims they had it easy and damaged the well-being of the planet:
I was talking to my friend the other day about this and we’re just so annoyed at our parents’ generation. They had it so easy. They were all just high and driving around in cool, gas-guzzling cars. Destroying our environment and voting for the wrong people, and having no wars and no plagues and no pandemics. We’re in our 20s, we’re supposed to be having fun, and doing drugs and partying. But instead… We’re going to SoulCycle and trying to outlive our planet. We have a horrible president, and it’s just really irritating. They really f—ed us.
Despite these beliefs, Maya Hawke still goes along well with her parents. In fact, she recently shared a singing session with her father Ethan Hawke on Instagram.
