Stay-at-Home! New York Lockdown Extended for another Two Weeks!
Well, it looks like residents of New York will have to stay in quarantine for a little longer. According to US President Donald Trump, the social distancing guidelines should last until the end of this month. The plan is for the country to “reopen” from May 1. However, the Empire State has other plans as the New York lockdown was recently extended until May 15!
New York Lockdown: A Precaution or Necessity?
There was a reason behind the state in question being named the “Coronavirus capital of the World”. Until now, over 222K confirmed cases of COVID-19 are from the state of New York alone. Between April 14 and 16, more than 1,300 coronavirus victims lost their lives.
So, it turns out that the state doesn’t have many other options than by asking people to stay in quarantine and keep practicing social distancing for a little longer. On the bright side, there has been a considerable reduction in the number of hospital and ICU admissions over the last few days.
State Governor Extends the Lockdown!
Taking all factors into consideration, Governor Andrew Cuomo extended the statewide lockdown until “at least” May 15. A day prior to announcing the extension, he made it compulsory for all citizens to wear masks while in public.
So, all non-essential workers must stay in quarantine until the deadline of the lockdown (subject to change). According to Cuomo, if people adhere to the lockdown guidelines, he would consider reopening the state and its operations phase-by-phase.
Cuomo added that social distancing rules shall remain in effect for an uncertain amount of time even after the lockdown period ends. He is concerned that there is no way to find out the total number of people who became a target of the virus.
Well, we have to admit that the decision is a sensible one. It’s likely that other states will follow suit as well. What do you think? Let us know in the comments down below!
