In March, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson contracted coronavirus in Australia

In order to shoot his next film, Elvis, Tom Hanks and his wife were in Australia. However, both of them contracted the virus and had to be hospitalized. Since then, the coronavirus has spread all over the world and has affected more than 2 million people. Through their respective Instagram profiles, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson informed their fans of the disease and kept them updated. In a post, Hanks wrote:

Hello, folks. Rita Wilson and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the coronavirus, and were found to be positive.

After spending two weeks in the hospital, the couple recovered and has since returned back to their house in the US.

Recently, Wilson shared her experience of  coronavirus recovery and the side effects of Chloroquine

A few days ago, Rita Wilson appeared on Gayle King’s CBS This Morning and gave an interview about her coronavirus recovery. During the interview, she talked about the symptoms, the medication and its side effects. She said:

“I felt very tired, extremely achy, uncomfortable, didn’t want to be touched, and then the fever started. The fever to 102. Chills like I’ve never had before. … Looking back, I also realized that I was losing my sense of taste and smell, which I didn’t realize it at the time.”

After that, they gave her a medicine called Chloroquine, which is used for malaria and lupus. Although it is being used as a treatment for coronavirus, it has not yet been proven if its effective or not. Furthermore, she said:

“About Day 9, they gave me chloroquine. And I know people have been talking about this drug, but I can only tell you that I don’t know if the drug worked or it was just time for the fever to break.  But the chloroquine had such extreme side effects. I was completely nauseous and I had vertigo. And I could not walk, and my muscles felt very weak. … I think people have to be very considerate about that drug. We don’t really know if it’s helpful in this case.”

On the other hand, Tom Hanks did not have severe symptoms. He did not have a high fever nor did he lose his sense of taste and smell. Now safe at home, Hanks has resumed work and recently appeared in the at-home episode of SNL.
