WWE Deemed “Essential Business” by Florida; Resumes Live Shows!

Are the State Officials for real???

Football, movie production, and even restaurants, almost everything has shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, there’s one sports company that is still running strong, without any interruptions. We are referring to WWE. Well, technically it’s Sports Entertainment but you get our point. But why is the wrestling company still running live shows at such a time? Because it’s “Essential Business”.

Why Doesn’t the Statewide Lockdown Concern Wrestling?

Back in March, WWE taped footage for nearly 2 weeks. The purpose of this was to allow the talent to go into quarantine while the catastrophe (the coronavirus) settles down. However, the situation got worse with time. Moreover, after the first week of April, WWE ran out of taped content to put on TV on a weekly basis.

So how would the Professional Wrestling Giant honor its deals with USA and Fox? Because as far as we know, Ron DeSantis (Governor of Florida) issued a statewide lockdown at the start of April. The lockdown would make it easy for people to practice social distancing, which will in turn help curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Initially, the state didn’t consider WWE as an essential business. However, Jerry Demings (Mayor of Orange County) said that “with some conversation with the governor’s office regarding the governor’s order, they were deemed an essential business”.

With this past Monday’s Raw, WWE once again began airing live shows three days per week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). Florida’s Emergency Management Director signed the order to make things official.

As per the order, professional sports’ employees and media production personnel are not a part of the stay-at-home order. However, they must ensure that the locations at which they proceed with their operations remain inaccessible for the general public.

WWE issued a statement which read:

We believe it is now more important than ever to provide people with a diversion from these hard times. We are producing content on a closed set with only essential personnel in attendance following appropriate guidelines while taking additional precautions to ensure the health and wellness of our performers and staff.

With the coronavirus pandemic running rampant across the world, WWE programming aims to be a breath of fresh air. Even the American president Donald Trump believes in the power of wrestling. He recently added WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and UFC President Dana White to his economic task force.
