Let’s be honest, the last decade was not so good for the DC Extended Universe. Batman vs. Superman failed to beat Civil War. Moreover, Justice League was an absolute s**t show if you compare it to the first Avengers. Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey were mediocre successes. Shazam was a good movie overall. However, only Wonder Woman managed to meet and surpass fans’ expectations. And the future is still bright, with Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock leading a movie as Black Adam.

Dwayne Johnson gives update about DCEU's Black Adam

Dwayne Johnson gives update on DC’s villain:

The Rock was confirmed as Black Adam last October, with an expected release window of late 2021. However, the coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the entire schedule of studios. DC fans have been waiting for an official statement. Last year, Dwayne expected production to start in summer 2020. But considering the current situation, the studio has been forced to revise the timetable. He stocked about the future of Black Adam in a recent live stream:

We still plan on shooting Black Adam, probably at the end of summer now – probably pushed maybe into August, maybe September. So we will see, but I can’t wait for that. I have been training so hard for months and months and months for Black Adam. And that is a passion project for me, it’s a role that I hold dear in [my heart], and into my DNA. So I can’t wait.

The Rock is very passionate about Black Adam:

Although the announcement was only made last year, Dwayne Johnson has been working on this project for almost a decade. Black Adam is a personal favorite of Johnson, and he wanted to portray this character even before Man of Steel came out! You can watch how passionate he is about the villain here:

Black Adam has been with me for over ten years now. That gives you an idea of how passionate I am about this project. In 2008 was when we first started talking about this. So it has required patience by all of us as partners. And I’m a much different man and actor than I was ten years ago. Even then, ten years ago, I just wanted to wait for the timing to feel right. And it feels like now, the man that I’ve become, I’m able to bring a little bit of my own life lessons and philosophies and engrain them in the DNA of this character.
