SNL has finally joined the home edition shows that are happening all around us. It is so good to finally have our favorite and talented comedians back with us along with Tom Hanks. Who knows for how long this virus decides to stay among us.
Tom Hanks opens SNL
It is only fitting that the first home edition of SNL be hosted by the actor who was diagnosed with the virus in the early days. Tom Hanks was in Australia when he and his wife got infected. Since then he has been in the care of Australian doctors. For this reason, he was dressed as a cowboy and was sporting an Australian accent. He talked about his generous helpings of vegemite on his toast. Also, apparently the folks in Australia read the temperature in Celsius. This must have given a heart attack to Tom Hanks when he didn’t know about this difference.
Some jokes that happened in the episode are summed up here. Hanks started the episode with “Cats and Kittens”, referring to Tiger King. Kate McKinnon told the viewers that they are all Live from Zoom and the time is somewhere between March and August. In a small skit, McKinnon and Aidy Bryant played the role of inappropriate receptionists. Bryant was also about to take her laptop into the bathroom but was luckily stopped. She also joked that for the lack of toilet paper she used her license to wipe and now she doesn’t know her birthday.
Chris Martin joined in as the musical guest and played Bob Dylan’s “Shelter from the storm”. Alec Baldwin impersonated the president but as makeup wasn’t available, he improvised and decided to do an audio call alone. Also, they paid tribute to SNL’s music producer Hal Willner, who died of the virus last week.
