The Office: Were Jim And Pam Meant To Get Divorced?
The Office has been one iconic show. And when it ended, a lot of hearts broke with it. But we had to move on. However, years later a question popped into our head.
This question was brought on by a book published March 24, 2020 called The Office: The Untold Story of the Greatest Sitcom of the 2000s: An Oral History. The author, Andy Greene revealed quite a few things in the book. Including the teeny tiny little fact that The Office’s OG couple, Jim and Pam, were actually supposed to get divorced by the end of the sitcom.
Now, that might come as a shock to The Office fans. Jim and Pam are one of the most iconic couples in TV history. They gave fans some serious couple goals. And even though they ended up together, there was a time when splitting them up was in the cards.
Were Jim And Pam Supposed To Get A Divorce In ‘The Office’?
According to the new oral book, Jim and Pam were supposed to get a divorce after they had gotten married and had kids. Supposedly in Season 9. The idea was pitched by John Krasinski, the actor who played Jim. He pitched to the show creator, Greg Daniels.
“My whole pitch to Greg was that we’ve done so much with Jim and Pam. And now, after marriage and kids, there was a bit of a lull there for them about what they wanted to do,” John said.
He also shared he said to Greg it would be interesting to have these two people the fans love go through a split. How they’d deal with it, how their relationship would change, how it would affect them as a person.
However, much to every The Office’s fan’s relief, it didn’t happen.
“Greg really wanted to do something extremely risky and high-stakes. And there was going to be a reunion episode where you see that Jim and Pam have split up. And they will have their reunion in the reunion episode,” writer Brent Forrester revealed. Well thank God, they didn’t go through with it. And we saw Jim and Pam living happily ever after.
Imagine losing Michael Scott and the iconic couple from The Office both.
