No matter what character she plays, Emma Watson will always be Hermione Granger

Although she had performed in the productions of Stagecoach Theater, Watson had never acted professionally before Harry Potter. After eight auditions, Emma Watson got the part of Hermione Granger. From the first film, Watson showed incredible maturity with her acting and critics could not stop praising her. Sometimes, it was also said that she overshadowed her male co-stars. After her journey as Hermione Granger ended, Watson went ahead to work in other memorable films like The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Beauty and the Beast, and Little Women.

Last year, she got people talking when she called herself ‘self-partnered’

In an interview, Emma Watson confessed feeling stressed after turning 30. Initially, she did not understand the fuss around it but once she got there, she felt the anxiety. All over the world, people expect to have a stable life and all questions answered by the age of 30. Therefore, Watson also felt a bit left behind and tried to figure out how she wanted to define this age. That is when she came up with the term, self-partnered. She said:

“I never believed the whole ‘I’m happy single’ spiel. I was like, ‘This is totally spiel.’ It took me a long time, but I’m very happy [being single]. I call it being self-partnered.”

Interestingly, the term comes from Emma Watson’s fascination with the Kink Culture

Emma Watson has expressed her fascination with the kink culture. She also feels that the kink community defines consent perfectly. She said:

“I’ve kind of become slightly fascinated by kink culture because they are the best communicators ever. They know all about consent. They (understand) that stuff because they really have to get it — but we could all use those models; they’re actually really helpful models. For me it wasn’t so much about coining a word; it was more that I needed to create a definition for something that I didn’t feel there was language for. And it was really interesting because it really riled some people up! It was less for me about the word but more about what it meant.”

What is Kink Culture?

Although Fifty Shades of Grey comes to mind when we think about kink and BDSM, the kink community has criticized the books. They feel that the lack of safe word and non-consensual practices give a bad name to their community. For a layman, kink culture is sexual practices using BDSM and consent. However, it is not limited to BDSM and sex does not have to be a part of it. Psychologists have also described it as a power dynamic between people. According to the community, it is not just about sex but enhancing intimacy between people.
