As the former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger has a lot of love for his home state. That too especially during the Coronavirus Pandemic. However, he is also very vocal about how the government of California is treating the issue. He recently gave an interview, where he called the government “shortsighted”.
Schwarzenegger was prepared to deal with a pandemic
Back in 2006, the former governor put aside $200 million for emergency preparations in case of a future pandemic. He did this after the Bird flu outbreak of 2006, which killed 455 people worldwide. It included mobile hospitals and medical gear that would have prepared California for what it’s facing today. However, former governor of California Jerry Brown and other leaders of the state withdrew funding after the budget deficits in 2011.
In an interview to the politico, Arnold Schwarzenegger said:
Our ultimate responsibility is not just to make a budget balance, but to save lives. I thought we have to be prepared — because we are the fifth largest economy in the world
Even though he didn’t name Brown or the current governor by name, it was quite obvious:
Yes, there was a budget crunch … it’s easy for them to just look at the numbers, but not really to visualize disaster
Even though he was against this decision, he understood it and talked like a true veteran:
Would I have done it? No. But I understand that every governor and every administration looks at those things differently
Arnold donated for charity himself
Dear old Arnold Schwarzenegger didn’t just criticize the government but stepped up himself too for the people he loved. He himself delivered 50,000 masks to LA Hospitals on Tuesday. And not just that, but he donated $1 million to the GoFundMe for buying medical equipment in this pandemic. Moreover, that’s almost 17% of what the fund has collected till now! The fundraiser is currently at $6 million.
He advises people to stay fit
Arnold has repeatedly told people to stay at home. He realizes that the government can only do so much, and it’s the people that have to be responsible. But, staying at home doesn’t mean you should sacrifice your fitness. And who better to advise you on that but Arnold Schwarzenegger himself? He wrote a gym free fitness workout that you all can easily follow. Here’s the link.
There are a lot of things we can’t control during this crisis, so we need to focus on what we can control. I wrote up my old no-gym required workout for all of you, as promised, because we can control our fitness. https://t.co/cL0gSMgf1o
