George R.R. Martin Shot Cameos For Game Of Thrones!
Just like Stan Lee in the MCU!
We all took a massive sigh of relief when we found out that George RR Martin was healthy and safe. But, the quarantine has given him the chance to finish his pending work. Obviously, the most famous of that pending work is Winds of Winter, the 6th book in A Song of Ice and Fire. However, this free time has given him the chance to write even more, like his blog. And that gave us the breaking news that he actually shot cameos for Game of Thrones! Adding to that, he also comments on the Game of Thrones – Westworld crossover we saw last week.
George RR Martin cameo’s that could have happened
Those who follow every update of George, know that he keeps a personal blog. He updates it from time to time, giving his much anxious fans the necessary updates. This time, however, he told his fans something that only the producers had known before. George RR Martin disclosed that he shot cameos for Game of Thrones. Yes, cameos, just like Stan Lee had in the MCU! George wrote:
I also filmed a GAME OF THRONES cameo in the pilot, as a guest at Dany’s wedding to Khal Drogo. They gave me an enormous hat and really big balls, which might have been some sort of commentary.
But, that cameo never got to saw the light of day. The entire wedding scene had to be reshot, thus David Benioff and DB Weiss cut out the cameo. This was because of the recast, which brought in Emilia Clarke into the show. However, George RR Martin shot a picture for the scene, and it’s absolutely hilarious!
He even planned cameos for the Red Wedding!
However, it doesn’t mean that didn’t mean he didn’t try again. George RR Martin wrote further that he tried to have his severed head shown along with Ned Stark’s on the walls of King’s Landing. But, as usual, the CGI budget of the show didn’t allow that.
But, imagine seeing George RR Martin killed in the Red Wedding! He wrote:
I also campaigned to die horribly at the Red Wedding, which seemed only fair since I was responsible for it, but it was felt that my presence in that powerful, wrenching, bloody scene might have taken the viewers out of the moment.
And to be honest, it’s for the best. Probably because showing the mass murderer responsible for the red wedding, which already broke so many fans into tears, as a fun cameo during the massacre wasn’t the best of ideas. David Benioff and DB Weiss at least got something right.
The Westworld – Game of Thrones crossover was to be much bigger than it was
Last week’s Westworld episode showed Drogon’s cameo in the park. And George RR Martin was absolutely delighted by it. He praised both Johnathan Nolan and Lisa Joy for their work. In fact, he had planned for something even bigger. Like, having Rob Stark and Ser Rodrik Cassel appear as hosts in ‘Westeros Park’. He wrote:
I even suggested that they could bring back actors from GOT, characters we had killed. The hosts die almost weekly, after all. The fans might have gotten a kick out of catching a brief glimpse of Richard Madden, Sibel Kekilli, Esme Bianco, Ron Donachie, or Mark Addy again… and I suspect the actors would have been game as well. But it was not to be.
That would have been a sight of epic proportions! Fans would have lost their mind, but some things are just too good to be true. Anyways, we can be happy with what little we got. Let’s hope George RR Martin has more in store for us in his upcoming ‘Winds of Winter’ we’re so desperately waiting for!
